MEET DR. JULIANA

I am a Registered Psychologist passionate about working with children, youth, and young adults with anxiety, OCD, ADHD, and behavioural and learning difficulties. My clinical approach is grounded in research and based on individual and family cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT)and Acceptance and Committed Therapy (ACT).

I also have significant experience conducting psycho-educational assessments, working with schools, and developing Individual Education Plans and school-based interventions. For many years, I worked as a school psychologist in a public school district, and for seven years, I developed and conducted different studies at the BC Children's Hospital that involved assessing

neurocognitive and academic functioning in pediatric OCD as well as treatment outcomes.

I have given numerous national and international presentations and have co-authored book chapters and academic papers. I am a collaborator with, and a consultant to, Anxiety Canada where I create resources and provide workshops in the community. In particular, in collaboration with Anxiety Canada and the Ministry of Children and Family Development, I was a leading co-developer of EASE, Everyday Anxiety Strategies for Educators, a collection of evidence-informed anxiety prevention and resilience-building resources for use with students in grades K-7.

EDUCATION

I completed my Masters and Ph.D. in School Psychology at the University of British Columbia. My dissertation study on neurocognition in pediatric OCD received awards from diverse psychological organizations, including a Certificate of Excellence from the Canadian Psychological Association. I obtained specialized training in treating anxiety disorders and other conditions during my APPIC-accredited internship with Child and Youth Mental Health.

I have been involved with the B.C. Children’s Hospital Provincial OCD Program (POP) since 2012. I have recently completed a 3-year Postdoctoral Fellowship at POP, where I participated in numerous aspects of research related to neurocognitive and academic functioning in OCD as well as treatment outcome. During my fellowship, I provided school-based support for POP families and gathered evidence about how students with OCD function at school and what to do to help improve their school functioning. For more information about the main studies that I conducted and published, please see Publications.
